    • Apply their knowledge of the key elements of lesson planning through creation of a visual representation
    • Identify and apply key concepts of constructive feedback and authentic assessment in lesson planning


Opening Activity/Do Now:

Respond in your notebook to this quote from page 460, The Skillful Teacher
"Academic feedback is more strongly and consistently related to achievement than any other teaching behavior"

In groups, create a visual representation of what you think a lesson should look like. Illustrate on chart paper. Some suggestions: mind map, concept map, pictogram, sketch, etc....
  • What are the essential components of a lesson?
  • What DO YOU personally bring to a lesson to motivate your students? (humor etc...)

















Gallery Walk: Stroll around the room and view illustrations.
As a result of what you saw, what would you revise in your illustration to improve your lesson?

Activity 3:

From the article Collecting Data to Create a Positive Classroom Climate, divide up the reading in your group as follows:
  1. Using Feedback
  2. Feedback that Promotes Reflective Thinking
  3. Differentiating Feedback for Diverse Learners
  4. Ritual, Respect, and Cultural History
Using the instructional strategy, Save the Last Word. On the right side of the two column notes, write any quote or phrase you selected to raise to the group. On the left side, write any connections, questions, and points of agreement or disagreement you want to make about the quote or segment.

Ms. Brown Modeling Think Aloud for a Lesson


Continue planning your lesson either individually or with a partner using the district lesson plan template.
Don't forget that each participant will present a 3-5 minute "Think Aloud" related to the lesson you are planning.
All lessons should incorporate Best Practice - Before, During, After Reading / Gradual Release of Responsibility. Refer to pages 13 -18, Content Literacy Guide to help you make planning decisions.//
You must include 2 instructional strategies that include ONE of the following:
  1. Two-Column Notes
  2. Think/Write/Pair/Revise/Share
  3. Summarizing
  4. Frayer Model
